I would think about what theme you want to convey. Like inspiration, encouragement, cheerfulness, hope for the future, friendship, something bigger than yourself. Example John Kennedy, "Think not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." Conveys YOU HAVE the POWER within you to do great things. TOGETHER WE CAN!
Developing friendships like you mentioned is very good.
People as a group like to hear things about themselves, usually positive, good for ME kind of things. Using yourself as an example of growth, how far you have come, what not to do or what you have learned from your experiences is good. Ending with the Cicero quote is very good. One of my favorites. Always review any correspondence and remove negatives, think of a way to say it in a more positive light. The audience will leave with a smile on their face and a good feeling in their hearts if your goal is to make a positive impression. They may want to shake your hand or slap you on the back 'cause you are thinking of them.
Good Luck!References :

Is this speech supposed to be about you, or spoken on behalf of the graduates to the audience? I really don't know, but it may be worth finding out before you embarrass yourself.

Second, the most memorable V speech I ever heard was the briefest. Your speech is a very classic valedictory. Is that your objective?

Best wishes and congratulations.References : Retired educator - 32 years in.

help with valedictorian speech?my speech is due in a matter of hours. any help at all would be much appreciated. here's what i have,

Class of 2008. From our shy and awkward beginnings in year 7, to the people we are today, I would like to thank you, for the person you have made me, and for allowing me to be a part of your lives.
I remember my first day at Woolooware High. I was the new kid in year 7, the first of quite a few to move here from OLMC. It is now clear that moving schools is probably one of the best ideas I ever had. I came about 2 terms into year 7. Most people don’t remember this. So, to clarify, I was the new kid, but I was at year 7 camp. Year 7 camp was probably one of my favourite memories of woolooware high. While the excellent quality accommodation and nutritional food were a bonus, I honestly enjoyed that camp in all of its awfulness. From the bus ride with kirsty Reynolds, and the notebook full of proof of our awesomeness, to the obscure people in my room, who i’m sure probably don’t talk to each other any more, to sneaking into becs tent and eating all her lollies, to refusing to go on the giant swing and laughing at Kendra for crying on the giant slide. It was a camp to remember. I found my current friends on that camp, and I hope they continue to be my friends, even if I do embarrass them in this speech.
We have all come a long way during the past few years. I can assure you, that many moons ago, when I was an embryo floating around my mother's womb, that I would never have expected to be standing in front of you all today, talking about us. Since year 7, we have all, well, for want of a lesser term; developed. Some of us have developed alot, some of us are still as small as they were in year 7.
When we look back over the past few years, we can see that there have been many events that shaped who were are today. I can still remember very well, when we were in Year 7, watching the year 8's smash the year 9's in fruit fights. That’s why we don't get involved with the year above us, because they will murder us will simple ease.
During the past few years, I have made lots of friends, and possibly some enemies. For my friends, you have my sincere thanks for being there for me during the past 4 years. I would most likely not be standing where I am right now if it were not for you. You have helped me through just about everything, and for that I will be eternally grateful.

In conclusion, to those of you who are leaving, I wish you the best. If it doesn't work out, don't come asking me for money, for I will pretend I don't know you and probably spit on you. To those of you who are staying, I will have the...."honour" of getting to spend another two years with you. I'm not going to finish with a cheesy cliche like, "Bring on the HSC", because I'm not a complete twat.

I am a little twat though. So I will say, the best of luck in whatever you do after this year. I hope that the friends you made remain your friends for years to come, because, as Marcus Tullius Cicero once said, Friendship improves happiness and abates misery, by the doubling of our joy and the dividing of our grief.”

Thankyou.

our whole year has to do one, and present it to the class. so mine is about me.

classic is fine. i dont know how to make it unique. any ideas? haha
